We are delighted to announce an exciting expansion of support services at the Greenham Distribution Centre, following consultation with residents of The Nightingales and the surrounding community.
From Thursday 16th April 2026, we are pleased to be partnering with Via (V-i-a Drug and Alcohol Support), who will be providing a dedicated outreach worker during our weekly foodbank sessions at Greenham Community Centre. This initiative offers local people the opportunity to engage face-to-face with a trained support worker in a safe, welcoming, and non-judgemental environment.
Via delivers specialist support for individuals and families affected by drug and alcohol use. Their services focus on recovery, wellbeing, and practical guidance, helping people make positive and sustainable life changes within their communities.
In addition, we are very pleased to welcome a trained advisor from Citizens Advice West Berkshire, who will attend sessions twice a month. Citizens Advice provides free, confidential, and impartial advice on a wide range of issues including debt, housing, benefits, employment, and legal matters—helping people to understand their rights and find practical solutions to everyday challenges.
This development builds on the fantastic work already taking place at Greenham Community Centre, now run by Berkshire Youth. Their mission to create positive opportunities for young people in the area has been transformative, and through these new partnerships, we are working to replicate that same level of support for older residents and families.
We are also incredibly grateful for the continued support of Rhys from the West Berkshire Council Let’s Talk Programme. Rhys regularly attends sessions to provide advice and guidance on a wide range of council services, including the LIFT Project—where households are proactively contacted and signposted to additional support—as well as public protection, housing, waste services, and other key areas.
Alongside this, our dedicated Benefits and Welfare Advisor, Amelia, continues to deliver a holistic wraparound support service for clients. Over the past year alone, her work has resulted in an outstanding £379,000 in financial gains for individuals and families accessing the foodbank. This includes supporting people on zero-hour contracts, helping disabled clients access the financial assistance they are entitled to, and working with families who may not qualify for benefits but still face financial hardship. Amelia also provides practical support with budgeting, cooking from scratch, and money-saving strategies to help build long-term resilience.
Together, these partnerships represent a significant step forward in strengthening community support in Greenham—ensuring that residents not only have access to emergency food provision, but also to the advice, guidance, and services they need to improve their overall wellbeing.
