Volunteer Training at Thatcham Baptist Church

12th July 2025

At food banks, much more than just milk and sugar goes into a cup of tea. Over a cuppa, volunteers take the time to chat to people and connect them up with advice and support. When people are going through a tough time, this support can make a big difference.

Recently, over 35 dedicated volunteers gathered at Thatcham Baptist Church for a training event led by our Trussell Area Manager, Lucy. The session was a powerful reminder that volunteering with the food bank is a privilege — often offering a moment of kindness and companionship on what could be someone’s hardest day.

The training highlighted best practices, encouraged shared learning, and reinforced our commitment to delivering compassionate, community-focused support. As a Trussell food bank, we operate autonomously to meet the unique needs of our local area, all while benefiting from the guidance, governance, and backing of one of the UK’s largest anti-poverty charities.

Our sincere gratitude to Thatcham Baptist Church for allowing us to use the Sanctuary, a calm and wonderful space.
