West Berks Foodbank Honoured for Outstanding Commitment to
Supporting Students at The Castle School Newbury, 4th July 2025 – West Berks Foodbank has been recognised with a special award at The Castle School’s Annual for their exceptional contribution to the development and empowerment of students with additional needs over the past three years.
Presented by Newbury Town Mayor David Harman and local MP Lee Dillon, the award honours the invaluable partnership between the Foodbank and The Castle School, Newbury. The accolade was received by Anne and Katie on behalf of West Berks Foodbank in recognition of the organisation’s ongoing dedication to providing meaningful work placements to Castle School students.
Anne, Lesley, and Katie from the Foodbank have thoughtfully designed and delivered tailored sessions that accommodate the individual abilities of each student. Through these placements, young people have not only developed valuable life and employability skills, but also been given the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to their local community.
The award citation reads:
“For consistently offering wonderfully supportive work placements to our students. Providing a safe and nurturing workplace environment, where our young people can flourish at their own pace.”
West Berks Foodbank’s approach aligns with The Castle School’s vision to empower students by engaging them in purposeful experiences, as outlined in their World of Work programme. The collaboration has opened doors for students to gain confidence, independence, and skills for life beyond the classroom.
