Greenham Trust Charity Awards – Charity of the Year

19th November 2023

On Thursday 2nd November Greenham Trust hosted an Awards Event and After Party to acknowledge and reward the great work of local charitable organisations, volunteers and fundraisers that improve the lives of others in West Berkshire and north Hampshire.

This was a fantastic opportunity for everyone to get together, collaborate and celebrate the incredible achievements of the voluntary sector.

The individual awards were for:

  • Fundraiser of the Year
  • Trustee of the Year
  • Volunteer of the Year

The Charity Awards were:

  • Charity of the Year for the Disadvantaged
  • Community Charity of the Year
  • Health and Wellbeing Charity of the Year
  • Young People Charity of the Year
  • Small Charity of the Year

The winner of each of the above charitable award categories was then shortlisted for Overall Charity of the Year.

West Berks Foodbank was nominated and shortlisted in the Volunteer of the Year category and the Charity of the Year for the Disadvantaged.

We were incredibly proud to be awarded the Charity of the Year for the Disadvantaged, we were included in a category with other brilliant charities: Community Furniture Project, Swings and Smiles, and Newbury Soup Kitchen. All amazing charities that deserved to win.

The evening continued with some amazing nominations and charities.
We were so pleased to be able to applaud the amazing work of Citizens Advice West Berkshire, The Community Furniture Project, Ark Cancer Charity, Time to Talk, Educafe, and our personal favourites All Yours, our local period poverty charity. We have watched in awe at the passion and amazing growth of this charity over the past couple of years. Well Done Caroline and Cara, we are so proud of you.

After an amazing event hosted at a packed-out Corn Exchange and sponsored by Newbury Building Society, we were then blown away to be awarded the Overall Charity of the Year.
Our Trustee Sarah summed it up beautifully to our amazing volunteers when she wrote.

“Wow! Two awards in the inaugural Greenham Common Trust Charity Awards night. Of course, we think you are totally the most fabulous foodbank team, but it’s so good to see that others agree!
This recognition is about so much more than the shiny star on the night. It’s about the days you don’t feel like opening up, stacking, driving, smiling, listening, filling, weighing, managing the accounts, uploading onto social media, contacting schools, churches and supermarkets, making the tea – and yet you did, every week this year and every week for the last ten years. It’s about West Berkshire, our peers, and our clients too, knowing that we are here for them, this week and next week. It’s for the donors knowing that they can give in the confidence that we are making a difference, adjusting our care to fit the changing times, taking on benefits advice, adapting the contents of the food parcels for newly arrived people”.

Our charity sector in West Berkshire is exceptional, we all work collaboratively together in our expert fields, offering both peer to peer support, as well as charities sharing their surplus resources.
We are so pleased that Greenham Trust has chosen to raise the profile of the West Berkshire and north Hampshire’s charity sector.
West Berks Foodbank would not be able to operate without the amazing support we receive from The Greenham Trust, our churches, schools, supermarkets, and corporate partners. Thankyou, we are blessed to have your support.
